Appalachian WordFest: FREE Download Recommended Reading List!

Appalachian WordFest: FREE Download Recommended Reading List!

I have spent the weekend preparing for the Appalachian WordFest in Sevierville on Saturday, March 1. The FREE admission event will host more than 70 book vendors and regional authors.

Warped Minds Press will have a booth! I am looking forward to attending and to have my books available for sale. If interested, I plan to offer autographed copies of The Art of the Compromise along with bundle packages of all three books.

For this event, I have created a one-page PDF of a recommended reading list. I plucked the list from my book, and it contains twelve books to help us move beyond the Tyranny of the Deal and restore the Art of the Compromise in our political discourse

These twelve books are not all-inclusive. I had great difficulty selecting only twelve. The books in bold are three pillars—my personal “Peter, James, and John”—that have significantly impacted my thinking about our American struggle to achieve political compromises.

Please download the list and share it or this blog post.

I am planning to have printouts of this file available at the booth this weekend. I hope to engage folks in conversation to better understand the polarization we are seeing in politics today. I’ve added some tension-diffusing elements to my booth setup that I’m hoping will encourage more dialogue.

Some new signage for my booth to help diffuse tension and encourage dialogue.

I have added a black letter board sign that reads “ALL DISPUTES SETTLED BY ROCK, PAPER, and SCISSOR.” I would have written “SCISSORS” plural, but I ran out of “S” with the kit that I purchased. I hope this phrase will inject some humor and make the booth more approachable.

I also have a little metal bee that has a sign “BE KIND” that I’m also hoping will add some levity to the booth and pull people into conversations.

I have also purchased some craft bags along with an ink stamp to give to folks who make a purchase. As this self-publishing is my hobby, I am hoping this branding will drive more folks to the booth for more in-depth conversations.

Again, if you can make it to Sevierville this weekend, come join me. Stop by the booth and let’s have a conversation!
