Lisa and I had a fun time tooling around Nashville this past weekend. We had dropped GP off at a weekend workshop for something-a-mo-bob for school. While GP was holed up in a camp cabin, Lisa and I took in the sights and sounds of Nash-vegas.
One of the enjoyable stops was a local independent bookstore Parnassus Books. As their website states, “Our shop was opened in 2011 by novelist Ann Patchett and her business partner, Karen Hayes, and Ann took over as the sole owner in the summer of 2022 after Karen retired.”
While there, I enjoyed browsing their wide selection of author-signed editions, including Differ We Must by Steve Inskeep and An Unfinished Love Story by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
I also picked up a copy of Gideon’s Trumpet by Anthony Lewis, but it’s not a signed edition. I’m listening to Gideon’s Trumpet through Audible, and it’s becoming one of my top 10 books.

I’ve outlined this book briefly in another post. If you are looking for a book with insights into the Supreme Court and its relationship to the Constitution, this book is a winner. I highly recommend it.
I’m excited to sit down and start turning the pages of Inskeep and Goodwin’s books soon, in particular Inskeep’s. Books on Abe Lincoln are a never-miss winner.
With that said, I’m fascinated by Ann Patchett, who owns Parnassus Books. I read a few online articles describing her life and background, and this Guardian article provides succinct insights.
She describes herself as “very liberal” and a vegan. I am doubtful she would enjoy my book, but I would enjoy the opportunity to sit down and understand her perspective. She’s had a wildly successful writing career.
